Motorola Atrix 4G Phone Review
Article by Anders Kreskow
Over the past few years Motorola have lost significant ground to other mobile phone manufacturers such as HTC. With the Motorola Atrix they plan to regain their grasp on the mobile phone market and shoulder into 4G phones market with their latest cutting edge device, featuring some of the highest technical specifications on the market today. For a start the Motorola Atrix is built to run on the new 4G networks, the evolution of 3G mobile internet, offering significantly faster browsing speeds and download times for apps, movies and images. While the 4G network is not available in all locations, it is rapidly expanding as consumer demand grows and the number of phones capable of utilizing the next generation technology hit the market. As with most modern phones the Motorola Atrix utilizes touch screen technology for its primary navigation, however with some added advantages over its competition in the touch screen world. It boasts a 4 inch qHD display, that allows for crystal clear resolution without using the amount of battery other similar phones use, a technology allowing up to 9 hours of talk time and 10.4 days standby time. Unlike its closest rival, the iPhone, the Motorola Atrix is capable of playing Flash media, a huge advantage when browsing the web or downloading media. The Motorola Atrix comes preloaded with two web browsers, a WebKit browser to use on the device, and a full Firefox browser to use in “WebTop” mode. The revolutionary WebTop mode allows you to connect your Motorola Atrix into a Motorola Lapdock, essentially turning your phone into a full laptop with 11.6 inch screen and a full keyboard, making this a viable alternative to buying a netbook or laptop as well as a mobile phone. You can currently get the phone and lapdock for 9.98 from AT&T, providing significant savings against buying a phone and a laptop. In order for a phone to function as a laptop, a high hardware specification is required, and the Motorola Atrix does not disappoint. Featuring 1GB RAM, 4G internet connectivity and a dual core processor, the Motorola Atrix stands up to comparable value netbooks easily. It even comes with an nVidia 3D graphics card to make the most of 3D gaming apps, ensuring that they run smoothly and without any freezing or glitching. As a competitor to HTC, the Motorola Atrix firmly puts Motorola back in the competition for high spec Andorid Phones, and ahead of competitors like Apple who have yet to release a phone capable of utilizing 4G networks. AT&T remains one of the largest phone carriers in the United States and reception, call quality and 3G/4G connectivity and coverage is good, and significantly better than smaller rivals such as T-Mobile and Sprint, where reception can be a bit choppy due to the fact that the network is significantly smaller. One thing to be aware of is that some of the preloaded apps cannot be removed, for some users this can be tedious, however the majority of apps can be removed and replaced by apps from the Android app store. It is possible that with future updates to the operating system this may change, however it is likely done for a reason due to licensing and promotional agreements with the developers. All in all the Motorola Atrix is a great choice from all the new 4G phones with a specification capable of lasting the test of time in a very competitive market.
